James M. Cain's novel received its first authorized screen treatment in this MGM production. Drifter Frank Chambers (Garfield) takes a job at a roadhouse run by slovenly but likeable Nick Smith (Kellaway). Nick's sexy young wife Cora (Turner) takes an immediate liking to Frank, but he senses that she's trouble and he keeps his distance -- for a while, anyway. A British classic of such famous status that it barely needs an introduction. Directed by auteur David Lean and adapted by Noel Coward from his own stage play, this is a poignant and beautifully crafted love story. Laura Jesson accidentally meets Dr Alex Harvey at a railway station. As their acquaintance grows, so does their attraction to each other, despite both being married. In perhaps the greatest dance musical, Gene Kelly stars as a young artist who finds love on Paris ’Left Bank. As well as the Gershwin songs and score, including the blissful ‘’S Wonderful’, ‘An American in Paris’ is memorable for its famous climactic ballet sequence inspired by the work of Renoir, Dufy, Utrillo, Rousseau, Van Gogh, Monet and Toulouse-Lautrec.
