A 6-week animation residency

As part of this year’s education programme, the Kerry Film Festival teamed up with The Happpy Artist, and the Presentation Secondary schools in Listowel and Kilarney to develop an 6- week animation residency programme. The Happy Artist is a creative arts project based in Ballybunion, Co Kerry and is co-ordinated by award winning artist / film maker Lisa Fingleton.

Lisa worked with students from both schools to develop stop-motion animation projects. Students were involved in every step of the process from storyboarding to screening. The project will be showcased as part of the Kerry Film Festival at Listowel Cinema on Wednesday 2nd November 2011.

According to Lisa “animation is a great medium for working with young people as it incorporates all elements of creativity such as visual art, writing and music creation. It fosters individual creativity as well as teamwork’. Sr. Nuala, Principal of the Presentation School Listowel believes ‘while the academic system may not afford students the opportunity to develop their creative and artistic talents – animation certainly makes up for this’. ”

This residency was supported by the schools, Kerry County Council Arts Office and the Kerry Film Festival.
